The Texas Gay Rodeo Association is holding the Diamond Dash 5D Barrel Race, September 10th - 12th, in Alvarado at the Diamond W Arena. They report that their rodeos usually draw around 1500 cowboys and cowgirls from all over the USA and Canada.
You may be asking yourself, “What’s that got to do with the garden club?”.
RGC is a supporter of this event. Our banner will hang in the food court. This is the only food concession in the arena. Everyone in attendance will see our banner. We will also have posters and brochures for our tour available. We will have the opportunity to connect with a diverse crowd, sell tickets to our garden tour, and support a great organization. In its 27 year history, TGRA has contributed over $2,000,000 toward worthy causes in our community.
I spoke with Terry Covington, the assistant rodeo director, and this is what he said about TGRA.
“Gay rodeo is like most other western rodeos with a twist. In addition to the bull riding and barrel racing, there are fun, campy events such as wild drag racing and goat dressing which are always exciting to watch. Competitors from all over the US and Canada compete in rodeos though out the year to earn points to qualify for the Gay World Finals in Laughlin, Nevada. TGRA strives to produce and offer to the public a quality, entertaining and fun event to showcase the western lifestyle, rodeo and raise money for charity organizations in Texas.”
So dig out those dusty boots and cowboy hats and come on down to Alvarado for the most entertaining rodeo you’ll see anywhere. Support TGRA and visit the food court! For more information about tickets, events, and times, visit the TGRA website. www.tgra.org YEHAW Ya’ll!
